Who we are
teslacarfacts.com is an independent reference site about Tesla vehicles, published by 1031 Productions. It is not affiliated with Tesla, Inc. You can reach us at the address on the contact page.
What we collect
The site has no accounts, comments or sign-up forms. The suggest a correction form asks only for the correction itself; a name, an email address and a source are optional. What you send goes to a private inbox that only the site's editor reads, is used only to review and answer the correction, and is never published or shared. Like every website, our hosting provider records standard request data (IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) in server logs used for security and troubleshooting. If you email us, we keep your message only as long as needed to answer it.
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors and does not follow you across other sites.
Vehicle decoder privacy
Photos, PDFs and barcodes are read in your browser with tools downloaded from this site. The original files are not uploaded. Clicking Decode sends the VIN, selected document type and all reviewed text to our server to prepare your report. This includes filenames and any names, addresses or other personal details left in the text box.
For an official lookup, our server sends the VIN to NHTSA's public vPIC service. NHTSA receives the VIN and our server's connection details; we do not forward your document text or browser IP address. NHTSA processes the request under its own privacy policy.
The decoder does not save submitted text or reports in a database or inbox. The form uses a security cookie to prevent forged submissions. Normal hosting requests include your IP address, browser details, requested address and time, which may appear in request logs. The form submits reviewed text in the request body; older VIN links can still put the VIN in the page address, browser history and request logs. Downloads create a file on your device, and printing uses your browser's print dialog.
Decoder forms and results load no ads, visit analytics or Google Fonts. Responses ask browsers not to cache the page and not to send its address as a referrer. Following an external source or recall link opens another site under that site's privacy policy.
Advertising
Some pages show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites, to limit how often you see an ad, and to measure how ads perform. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can turn off personalized advertising in Google's Ad Settings, or opt out of many third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized ads at aboutads.info. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and describes its advertising cookies in Advertising.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent, through Google's consent message, before cookies are used for personalized advertising.
Ads appear only on reading pages such as model pages and stories. They never appear on this policy, the about and contact pages, or the site's tools. Advertisers have no say in what the site publishes.
Affiliate links
Some product recommendations link to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, teslacarfacts.com earns from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. Amazon may set cookies when you follow those links; its own privacy notice applies on its site.
A commission never affects which products we recommend, how we describe or rank them, or any fact published on this site. Each recommendation says what it is for, what its limits are and who should skip it, and we recommend products with or without an affiliate relationship on the same terms.
Other third parties
Pages other than the decoder load their typefaces from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when it serves the font files. Links to other sites, including Tesla, NHTSA, the EPA and news publishers, are governed by those sites' own policies.
Children
The site is written for a general audience and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
